Jonny Anthony
As an emerging Australian artist I am actively uncovering my artistic voice. My practice is intentionally exploratory, with a strong focus on experimentation, concept development, and building technical skill across different mediums. Rather than committing to a single style or subject too early, I am interested in allowing the work to evolve naturally.
A major focus of my development is studying traditional art practices and strengthening the core fundamentals that support strong visual work. This includes drawing, colour theory, anatomy, composition, and other foundational skills that underpin both classical and contemporary traditions. Building these fundamentals is central to how I am shaping my long term practice.
Alongside studio work, I have a strong interest in reportage illustration as an extension of my engagement with politics and contemporary issues. Observational drawing and visual storytelling allow me to document moments, conversations, and environments as they happen, connecting artistic practice with the social world around it.
Many of the works shared here are part of an ongoing process. Sketches, studies, and experiments play an important role in developing ideas and guiding the direction of larger projects.
Alongside my personal practice I also undertake commissioned work. Commissions provide opportunities to collaborate with others while applying the skills I continue to develop. Over time my goal is to build a sustainable creative life that allows space for growth, honesty, and continued evolution as an artist.
Choosing to pursue art full time came during a period of significant personal change. Creating has become a way to build a working life that supports my mental health, independence, and need for autonomy, while still pushing me to grow professionally and develop discipline within my practice.
I am currently working toward entering art competitions and developing a consistent social media practice to document my process and progression as an artist. Sharing this journey publicly is part of holding myself accountable while inviting others to follow along as the practice develops.
This website represents that process in motion. It documents the work as it evolves and offers a space to share both finished pieces and the stages that lead up to them. As my practice continues to develop, I am gradually finding my place within contemporary art while remaining open to where the work might lead next.
